Let It Be Done...

The Annunciation of the Virgin Mary by: Harald Slott-Mølle

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Normally, this feast is celebrated on March 25th (9 months before Christmas), but since that day was the Monday of Holy Week, it was moved to today, April 8th.

This is the day the Archangel Gabriel meets the Virgin Mary as described in the Gospel of Luke 1:26-38. God's plan for our salvation is unfolding and hinges on Mary's response to the message that she would miraculously conceive a Child by the Holy Spirit. Not just any child, but the long awaited Messiah. Mary's FIAT changes the world as she consents to becoming the Mother of Our Lord.

“Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.”

~Luke 1:38

How can you give God your own fiat today?

To help break it down a bit, fiat simply means: "let it be done". Let it be done God's way and in God's perfect time. It does not mean, "my way or the highway", "let it be done, but not to me", or "let me do it later".

Mary gives us the perfect example through her faith and trust in God coupled with humility and obedience. She does not rely on herself, but on God, trusting in Him completely. Her YES to God gives her the freedom to be the woman God made her to be. In the same way, your YES to God and dependence on Him can give you the freedom to be who God made you to be.

Let go of your false sense of control and your perceived self reliance to let God in and let it be done, His way. Trusting in this way is the first step, the second step, the third step....and ultimately the last step towards sanctity. Believe that He has everything under control, because He does.

Waffles for the Annunciation?

Ummmm, YES!

I pray you have a wonderful and blessed day!
